Zachariah Wiser

Zachariah Wiser – Lead Vocals & Guitar

zach wiser, the secret post, post-punk, lead singersWhat is it about great vocalists that find ways to reach into our minds and in our hearts to make us feel like they’re singing about our lives, our experiences, about us? We sing along with them as if we are in their shoes, on the stage of the world expressing every thought, dream, feeling, and realization of our lives. At times, we find it nearly unbelievable that another person could put into words these ideas, connections, and secrets which sit so deep inside our souls; moments of clarity which you thought only you could see and understand.

It takes a special kind of talent, and a special kind of individual, to be able to render in time and space these notions of our being…

Zachariah… front man… The Secret Post.

Like his backing members, Zachariah brings to the stage a deep history of musical exposure. He shared with me that his mother used to play all kinds of records during his formative years; Neil Young, Floyd, Prince, Motown, Eurhythmics, The-Fixx… and his father was always singing songs by George Jones and Johnny Cash.

Zachariah – “He’s a damn good singer too…”

Like father like son…

For Zachariah, life influences range from the passionate leads of David Gilmore, to the darkly melodies of Robert Smith and epileptic sounds of Ian Curtis. Of course every great musician has dynamic friends behind him to influence and inspire.

“The lead guitar in Dogs by Pink Floyd (David Gilmore) inspired me to learn guitar…along with my boy Robert Bowman playing “Mayonnaise” at my every request… Haha…Singers…”

“I also remember riding around with my good friend Tap one day, belting out “Hunger Strike” by Temple of the Dog…and he said to me very matter of fact, “You should sing man, you’ve got some pipes”…that was it…”

Every musician has select bands that drive their creative vehicles. Ultimately this contributes to the sound the musician lives by. From there they carve, shape, and polish their own unique sounds that, in their hearts, pay homage to their very favorites. Zachariah is particularly defined by this idea.

“The first musicians I remember knowing about were Pink Floyd and George Jones. I thought that was music. There were only two bands; and those were it!”

“My musical influences are much too long and eclectic to list…so we will go with my main ones…The Cure, first and foremost, Pink Floyd, a huge part of my growing up, Joy Division, the band that opened my eyes, David Bowie, the man that inspired 90% of the bands I adore…”

Starting his first band in California, Zachariah hit the scene with Wiseman to satisfy his New Wave/ Post-Punk creative outpour. He spent four years grinding at the desert mindset. Nearly forcing the scene to let go of the mainstream local sound, and to give in to what it was they really wanted; a total “Ruining.” Ultimately, Zachariah and Wiseman were successful in their ventures. The hard work and growth Zachariah experienced in the desert ultimately paid off. Near the end of his four year stint in the desert oasis, Zachariah found something. That something would eventually come to be shared with the rest of the world, The Secret Post.

From the beginning of the Post to present, Zachariah has seen backing members come and go; and some who came back again. It has been a long ride for the Post front man and I had to ask him…

With his current lineup, what has been the favorite show and what has been the personal greatest challenge thus far?

“My favorite show…? That would have to be a tie. Our latest EP Release was fucking amazing. The crowd was my food and drink. I fed off of them like a drug. The other was at the Cellar Dweller. No set-list, cramped, hot, fog; with Tap playing next to me again…intimate…just a good time and another amazing crowd.”

“My biggest challenge since the beginning has been letting people modify on what I write. It is hard sometimes, but most of the time it works out. I’m very particular when it comes to my songs; very stubborn to stray from the original idea. Not because I’m not open (which is the common misconception), but because these songs are my soul, they are my heart. I now, these days, write the other instruments much more basic.  That way each member can put their stamp on it; pending my approval…ahahah… But my boys usually do a great job. I’m proud of them. I’m not an easy leader to follow that is for sure.”

I’ve personally spent a great deal of time with The Secret Post; at shows, and the non-disclosed location of their rehearsal studio. I have had my personal experiences with Zachariah on both sides of the microphone. I have had some great conversations with fans about the music, and particularly the lyrics. Once you experience the music, you walk away with that feeling; those lyrics really connected.

You realize, this is a singer who is able to ‘render in time and space these notions of our being…’

Thanks for your support Post fans…the music could not survive without your support. With that said, a word from the front man himself…

“I would like to give a shout out to all of you who support us, who play our music, who take time to post about us, and who come to the shows. You have no idea what it means to us, what it means to me. This music is my story, my life, and if you feel something from that; you have my love. It’s just about the best feeling in the world…

Thanks to my wife Kristina, who has inspired some of the best songs I’ve ever written…

I would also like to shout out my Mother…she is my biggest fan and I hers…

To my son Shamus, who is so artistic and musically inclined, my mini me. And to my son Sebastian, who wants to play guitar and sing like his Daddy. I hope to make you both proud…to be the cool Dad that is still in a band…hhahah…

I would like to thank Patrick Howard, Robert Bowman, and Mike Webb…they showed me how to lead a band…how to write songs that make my heart race after 10 years…How to be a front man…How to expect everything from my band mates…They will always be MY bass player, MY lead guitar player, and MY drummer…WiseMan was, and still is, MY band.

Stay tuned people…you ain’t seen nothin yet…”

Don’t miss the next appearance by front man Zachariah with his band The Secret Post. You will not regret it…
